UGANDA, Hoima | Real Muloodi News | Construction of the Hoima City Stadium has commenced as part of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

The project, which is expected to be completed in 18 months, began with land clearing and a formal meeting among the agencies responsible for its execution.

On August 15, State Minister for Sports and Education, Peter Ogwang, chaired a meeting at the construction site in Hoima City.

The meeting included representatives from various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Works, security officials, Hoima City Lord Mayor Brian Kaboyo, and Ambrose Tashobya, Chairman of the National Council of Sports and Infrastructure for Pamoja 2027.

The contractor, Summa, has officially started work on the stadium.

“The 20,000-seater Hoima City stadium must be delivered by December 31, 2025,” Ogwang stated.

He also confirmed that the project has entered its active construction phase, with one and a half months already spent on mobilization.

Security measures are being implemented to ensure that construction progresses without interference.

The Hoima City stadium project, valued at $130 million, will feature multiple sports facilities, including an indoor arena for boxing, basketball, netball, and volleyball, a swimming pool, athletics tracks, and a training pitch.

The stadium is expected to be one of the venues for AFCON 2027.

“I have confidence that the company we selected has the capacity and will work 24/7 to ensure we achieve our target successfully,” Ogwang added.

The Hoima City stadium is part of Uganda’s broader infrastructure development plan for the 2027 AFCON, aiming to meet international standards and provide a world-class venue for the tournament.
