UGANDA, Wakiso | Real Muloodi News | In a shocking incident in Rukungiri District, a 35-year-old man is under investigation by the police for allegedly murdering his widowed mother and his own child, and injuring his wife and two siblings. The motive behind the gruesome attack is believed to be a dispute over family land.

The tragedy occurred in Kyanika B Cell, Nyarushanje Sub-county, at around 5:30 am, as identified by Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate.

The victims included 54-year-old Harriet Jane Twesigye, the mother, and her 2-year-old grandson, Budori Aijuka.

The assailant, Darius Akanyijuka, also attempted suicide after the attack.

According to reports, a neighbour, Bruno Tabaruka, heard cries for help on Saturday morning and discovered the injured family members in their compound.

The survivors, including the suspect’s wife and two younger siblings, had sustained injuries from the attack. When Tabaruka entered the house, he found Twesigye and Aijuka dead with deep-cut wounds.

Authorities revealed that Akanyijuka was armed with a blood-stained panga and was found in a separate bedroom, lying in a pool of blood.

The injured were identified as the 22-year-old wife, Adah Akanyijuka Nuwahereza, and two child brothers, both below the age of 15.

Francis Mugarura, the chairperson of Kyanika B Village, shed light on a possible motive, stating that the victims had previously prevented Akanyijuka from selling family property.

Upon his return from Kampala, where he had been working as a casual labourer, a dispute ensued, leading to a tragic turn of events.

Mugarura suggested that Akanyijuka developed a mental illness in response to being stopped from selling family property.

The police have opened a case of double murder and attempted murder against Akanyijuka at Rubabo Police Station.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Rwakabengo Health Center IV mortuary, while the suspect is receiving treatment at Rwamahwa Health Center IV in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to piece together the events leading to this devastating family tragedy.
