UGANDA – Kyankwanzi | According to Daily Monitor, President Museveni has promised support service delivery and to address land disputes for newly elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) Buganda legislators in their respective constituents from the Central Region.
Mubende Municipality MP-elect Bashir Sempa and Mawogola North MP-elect Shartsi Musherure chaired the three-hour meeting in Kyankwanzi.
In the meeting, the Buganda Legislators:
- Urged the president to boost district budgets and provide more programs to their constituents;
- Attributed the low Buganda NRM votes to Buganda land wrangles;
- Requested the president to expand the funding allocated to districts;
- Requested more programs for their constituents, such as the building of better highways and hospitals.
“We clarified to the president the importance of beginning to profile the origins of land wranglings and evictions in this country in order to find solutions,” Mr. Sempa said.
In response, President Museveni,
- Promised to collaborate with recently elected NRM politicians to ensure their constituents get services;
- Vowed to appoint a lawyer to manage land disputes and other related legal processes;
- Promised to punish government officials who engage in actions that contribute to widespread land disputes and evictions in Buganda.
Ms. Musherure told Daily Monitor over the phone that the meeting intensely focused on how to strengthen the NRM programs under its manifesto in Museveni’s new term.
“We mostly discussed ways to put the manifesto’s plans into action. We enjoyed his assistance during the campaigns,” Ms. Musherure said.
