UGANDA, Soroti | Real Muloodi News | In a significant development aimed at improving staff welfare and operational efficiency, Soroti Regional Referral Hospital has initiated a housing project for its blood bank staff.

The project, facilitated by the hospital management, marks a crucial step towards addressing accommodation needs for workers stationed at the blood transfusion centre.

The construction of houses for the blood bank staff is set to commence following the official handover of the project site to Geses Uganda Limited, the appointed contractor.

The site, located in Arapai, Soroti City, is adjacent to the ongoing construction of the blood bank, which is nearing completion at 90 per cent. Once finalised, the housing project is designed to accommodate four workers in each of the four housing units.

Ms Martha Ajilong, the head of the blood transfusion centre at Soroti Regional Hospital, highlighted the significance of the staff housing project in facilitating timely and effective task completion.

“Having the blood processed here and staff residing closer to the blood bank makes it convenient for the staff as well as the patients,” she remarked, underscoring the convenience factor for both staff members and service recipients.

Currently, the blood transfusion centre at Soroti Hospital comprises ten workers, with additional staff expected to join following the completion of the blood bank construction.

Dr. Joseph Epodoi, a senior executive consultant at Soroti Regional Hospital, commended the initiative, emphasising its potential to enhance service delivery.

He urged the contractor to adhere to the agreed timelines and maintain the highest standards of workmanship throughout the project implementation.

As part of the oversight process, Soroti Deputy Resident City Commissioner, James Small Chemutai, reiterated the importance of quality assurance and pledged to monitor the project closely to ensure compliance with specifications.

Emphasising the need for value for money, Chemutai affirmed the commitment to achieving optimal outcomes within the allocated budget.

The Soroti Hospital housing project, with an estimated cost of Shs1.1 billion, is scheduled for completion within three months.
