UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | Ugandan businessman and Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Muyenga, Sudhir Ruparelia, has donated fully equipped three-wheeled motorcycle ambulances, known as trikes, to assist with providing better healthcare to rural Ugandans.

The $3,000 ambulances were donated to help save the lives of pregnant women living in remote areas. The initiative is being led by Rotary International, with Sudhir’s donation aimed at helping disadvantaged individuals.

At a ceremony held at Speke Resort Munyonyo last month, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, flagged off the first 50 village ambulances donated by Rotary International and expressed her thanks to Rotarians for their contributions towards bettering the lives of Ugandans and improving the quality of healthcare.

”In a special way, I want to thank you rotarians for working tirelessly to change the Ugandans’ ways of living, mostly the vulnerable. Thank you so much. The President also welcomes the idea of having a well facilitated tricycle ambulance in every village in Uganda,” she said.

District Governor Rotarian Peace said that 50 trike ambulances will be rolled out in a pilot project targeting Wakiso, Kabarole, and Kabale.

The ambulances will be registered under the Ministry of Health and will be located at the health centres, where the majority of maternal mortality cases are reported.

The initiative aims to enhance the timely referral of mothers and newborn babies living in hard-to-reach places.

The Ruparelia Foundation, Sudhir’s charitable organisation, has worked with various stakeholders over the past ten years to drive positive change in communities across the country.

More than 700 charitable causes have been funded by the foundation, with a focus on healthcare, education, sports, wildlife and environment conservation, disaster relief, startup, and general welfare.

The Rotary Club of Uganda and Tanzania recognised Sudhir for his contributions to changing people’s lives and for being a parent to many Ugandans.

The initiative has been welcomed by President Museveni, who has called for the establishment of a well-equipped tricycle ambulance in every village in Uganda.

Depending on resource availability, the tricycle ambulance project will be expanded to cover the entire country.
