UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi NewsThe Chairman of the Ruparelia Group of Companies, Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, received the Hotelier Award for Passion and Leadership in Hospitality and Tourism Development in Uganda in honour of his Speke Group of Hotels.

Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has praised Dr Sudhir Ruparelia for his enthusiasm and vision for promoting hospitality and tourism in Uganda.

Mr Tayebwa said that Mr Sudhir is one of the investors who have Uganda’s best interests at heart while presiding at the tourism night celebration of World Tourism Day in Kampala on September 27, 2022.

“I know people who have been calling Dr. Sudhir to go and develop their Countries, I know many, some of them were asking me, but this Sudhir man what did you give him as Uganda? The man has a lot of money and we would like him to come and invest in our areas,” Tayebwa said.

“So Chairman, I want to thank you and your team of investors who have looked at Uganda as your number one destination for investment,” he added, assuring investors of the Government’s support whenever they needed it.

Mr Tayebwa urged Ugandans to market their country wherever they go.

“This is our home, whether you want it or not we are going to be buried here.” he said.

He emphasised, adding, “Don’t hate your country because you don’t have any other country, if you go around painting a picture of Uganda, that is totally different and yet for you, you come and enjoy, it’s a point of concern for some of us, you can say whatever you want but know the limit and be the Ambassador of Uganda wherever you are and that is one way we can promote tourism in Uganda.”

To increase the momentum for tourism, Mr Tayebwa also promised that Parliament will assist the industry through law and the allocation of crucial facilitators like infrastructure and security.

The Uganda Tourism Board’s (UTB) 2021/25 strategic plan, which aims to refocus tourism promotion and sustainably grow the volume and value of tourism in Uganda, includes the President Museveni-launched campaign Explore Uganda, the Pearl of Africa.

With the new brand identity, Uganda aims to boost revenue from tourism, investment and job development, visitor growth, the competitiveness of travel destinations, information gathering and access, and internal efficiency and effectiveness.

The culmination of last week’s festivities in Kampala included performances of dance, theatre, and music as well as displays showcasing the area’s heritage, natural and historical wonders, and culture.

Some of the creatures from the Uganda Wildlife Education Center will be on display. Several partners, including UTB, displayed their goods during the event.

Visitors learned about fresh tourism spots in the nation. Some of the creatures from the Uganda Wildlife Education Center were also on display.

Numerous individuals who significantly contributed to the promotion of Uganda were also honoured during the tourism night.

Awards for Dedicated Support towards Sustainable Tourism Development in Uganda were given to World Bank- Uganda Country Office, Embassy of Hungary, and European Union Commission in Uganda.

The Award for the Passion, Innovation and Development of the Hospitality Sector was given to Haji Ahmed Omar Mandela Restuarant.

Awards for the Passion and Growth of the Restaurant Enterprise in Uganda and Traditional Cuisine were given to Chimpundu Lodge and Baguma Restaurant, respectively.

Awards for the Passion and Promotion of Community and Domestic Tourism in Uganda were given to Kara Tunga Arts and Tours Ltd and Vilakazi Safaris, respectively, and the list goes on.
