UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), construction contributed UGX 2270.87 Billion to Uganda’s GDP in the first quarter of 2021. As with many other developing countries, Uganda’s growing construction industry provides the foundation for infrastructure development, an important factor for overall economic growth of the country.

The major players in Uganda’s construction industry have shown their commitment to premium quality and timely infrastructure completion.

Below is a list of the top five commercial construction companies in Uganda:

1. SBI International Holdings (UG)

SBI International Holdings Uganda manages Reynolds Construction Company-RCC (NIG LTD), controlled by SBI International Holdings. SBI International Holdings Group, headquartered in Switzerland, was founded in 1958 and has since grown to have hundreds of landmark projects worldwide. SBI International Holdings Group is currently among the top 250 international contractors globally.

Since 2000, SBI (Uganda) has expanded into civil engineering, development, and construction (industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential). So far, and completed about 920 kilometres of, such as Kagamba – Rukungiri Road, Hima – Kasese – Kilembe Road, and Karuma – Olwiya Road

Currently, SBI (Uganda) is constructing about 160 km road, including the Upgrade of Mukono-Katosi-Nyenga Rd – 74 Km. Other current projects include the Lubowa Housing Project (3000 housing units) and the Development of Kabaale International Airport in Hoima with another construction company called Colas.

With annual revenue of 1,573 billion US Dollars, SBI (Uganda) successfully delivers quality and consistent results through safe and well-engineered projects. The company is committed to gender equality and attempts to employ women because they recognize the importance of women in society. 

2. Roko Construction Limited

ROKO Construction Limited, founded by Max Rohrer and Rainer Kohler in 1969, has grown to become one of the country’s leading construction companies. ROKO employs about 1,800 people in many construction disciplines and uses locally produced materials or from the Preferential Trade Area. 

ROKO sources direct all its projects throughout Uganda from its headquarters in Kawempe, Kampala district. Using a variety of state-of-the-art construction equipment, ROKO has taken part in several projects. Such as Mapeera House, the headquarters of Centenary Bank on Kampala Road, Acacia Mall in Kisementi, Mestil Hotel & Residences, Crested Towers, and the renovation of Mulago Referral Hospital.

Currently, ROKO is working with Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute to complete several projects, including a new hotel block. Additionally, Raxio Data Centre Ltd selected ROKO to take on the civil works of Uganda’s first Tier III multi-billion carrier data centre in Namanve. 

3. Krishna Construction Co. Ltd (KCCL)

KCCL, founded in 1999, has shown a commitment to quality, transparency, and timely completion of all its projects. Today, KCCL has professionally qualified managers, engineers, supervisors, and the latest construction equipment and technology. KCCL prides itself on delivering customized services to meet the needs of its clients.  

The company reports an annual turnover of 4 million US dollars from institutions & commercial construction, renovation & new home building, and industrial construction. KCCL has completed many well-known buildings, such as Bahai International Hospital, Kololo Green Apartments, East African Breweries Limited, and S&J Chambers.

Their current projects include Hill City Mall Muyenga, Residential Flats Luzira, and Eagles Holdings Limited. 

4. Raghwani Construction

Mavji Jeshani and Harji Raghwani founded Raghwani Construction in 1982 and incorporated the company in 1989. The company has emerged as one of the leading contractors in Uganda, with many services and recognized for its quality. 

Raghwani Construction delivers timely, quality workmanship through a strong local presence both in Uganda and Kenya. The company provides several services and has completed complex commercial, residential, medical recreation, leisure centres, including the Golf Course project, in Kampala, off Kitante road.

5. Seyani International Company Limited

Seyani International Company Limited was founded in August 2000 and has since grown to become a Class “A+” contractor, according to the Ministry of Works & Transport. The company has 650 permanent staff and places great importance on training its technicians to produce high standards of workmanship. 

Seyani International Company Limited is an investor with Uganda Investment Authority, and it’s a member of the Uganda National Association of Building & Civil Engineering Contractors (UNABCEC).

The company has exhibited quality workmanship in its previous projects, including Barclays Bank (U) Ltd, Hannington Road, Redstone House on Bandali Rise, Housing Finance Bank Ltd Investment House Wampewo Avenue, City Oil Petrol Station Namirembe Road, and Hoid Establishment Limited, Nakasero Road.
