UGANDA, Tororo | Real Muloodi News | The Anti-Corruption Court has convicted and sentenced Tom Mause, the former Chairperson of the Tororo Area Land Committee, and three directors of the Lions Club of Tororo Host Ltd; Nelson Googo, Lawrence Wamala, and John Dambio over graft.
The directors were acting with Mr Tom Mause and Mr Jackson Osudo, attempting to fraudulently register the land to their private company, Lions Club of Tororo Host Ltd, created to usurp the rights of the legitimately registered trustees of Lions Club of Tororo.
In May 2022, a joint operation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and Police arrested the Directors of the club, the District Senior Lands Management Officer, the former Chairperson of the Area Land Committee, the Municipal Engineer, and the Town Clerk for conspiring to unlawfully transfer a public land measuring approximately 4 acres hosting the Tororo Children’s Park on plot 8-20 Busia Road.
The fraudulent process was intercepted at the Ministry of Lands Zonal Offices, Mbale after it was found that there was no input from the Physical Planner.
These acts were reported to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit which liaised with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) to arrest the accused and later charged them in court.
In a related development, the Tororo Municipality Town Clerk and the Municipal Engineer were also arrested over embezzlement of over USh180m funds meant to construct the Kagera Bridge.
Civil servants in several districts are always on tenterhooks as the State House Anti-Corruption Unit continues to crack the whip, arresting suspected corrupt officials on-site.
The anti-graft team, working in liaison with the Uganda Police Force, has had several suspects of political corruption picked up in Wakiso, Ntoroko, Kasese, and Mpondwe Town Council, Bundibugyo, Nakaseke, and Luwero districts, etc.
