UGANDA, Tororo | Real Muloodi News | To combat corruption in the land sector, Tororo District leaders have launched a prayer altar.
This initiative was presided over by Tororo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Nickson Owole, with religious leaders emphasising its role in seeking divine intervention to tackle graft.
Owole expressed his belief that corruption has permeated the area due to leaders distancing themselves from God, allowing unethical behaviour to prevail.
He noted, “The launch of this particular prayer altar is an indication that the leaders in the district have woken up ready to repent before God. Otherwise, if leaders embrace it, arms of government fighting graft will not be frequently arresting some public officers.”
RDC Owole also highlighted the detrimental impact of corruption on the community, attributing it to poverty and failing service delivery. He stressed that the creation of the altar comes at a crucial time.
District Speaker Betty Andera Chirya explained that the district leaders would utilise the altar for offering sacrifices and prayers, seeking divine blessings and strength.
She elaborated that the district plans to hold quarterly prayers, with an annual prayer breakfast event as a culmination.
The clergy, led by Bishop (Pastor) Tera Olukol of Magodes Pentecostal Outreach Ministries International Tororo, emphasised the importance of holding public offices with godly integrity.
Olukol stated, “Cherishing God will make officers entrusted with the tasks of holding public offices execute their duties in a Godlier way.”
Pastor Fred Epiat of Altar of God Ministries International Tororo proposed introducing fellowship hours and called for more frequent services if the district lacks qualified religious leaders to conduct them.
Tororo District LC5 Chairperson John Okeya commended religious leaders for their efforts in “interceding for the district” and recognised the positive impact of their prayers in restoring order.
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Gabriel Atama encouraged religious leaders to continue praying for the district and to promote wealth creation within their congregations.
The fight against corruption in the land sector is a critical endeavour for Tororo, and the prayer altar represents an essential step towards addressing this challenge.
