UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | Traffic along the Kampala-Masaka Road has been diverted after a section between Kyengera and Budo junction caved in following heavy rain. This is the second incident in four months of road damage on the highway.

Police have reported a “severe traffic jam” along the Busega-Kyengera section due to the caved-in road. To manage the situation, authorities have advised motorists to use alternative routes such as Nakawuka Road – Budo junction or Kitemu and Mityana Road – Buloba-Nsangi to access the Kampala-Masaka highway.

Motorists travelling from Masaka to Kampala have been instructed to use the Kitemu Budo-Nakawuka or Nsangi-Buloba-Mutyaba Road for the journey.

“The public is advised to exercise discipline and patience while teams from Traffic Police and Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) assess the damage,” stated SP Michael Kananura, the traffic and road safety public relations officer.

UNRA has urged motorists travelling on the affected road to approach the damaged section with caution.

“We are monitoring a situation of road damage at Kyengera, around the Hass Petrol Station area. We urge road users to exercise caution while approaching this section as our teams move in to undertake the necessary safety measures,” UNRA posted on its X handle.

This recent incident occurred just months after a similar situation in December 2023, when the road sank in the Busega-Kyengera section.

At the time, UNRA attributed the damage to erosion, which caused significant damage to approximately 1.5 meters of the road pavement near the embankment.

The erosion was reportedly caused by rising water levels in the Lubigi swamp area.

Efforts are ongoing to assess and repair the damaged section of the Kampala-Masaka road as authorities work to ensure the safety of motorists and the general public.
