UIA Offers Ugandans Opportunity to Access Free Land in Industrial Parks

UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) has unveiled a comprehensive campaign focused on investment facilitation and protection aimed at advancing the government’s industrialisation agenda. This opportunity will be extended to both local and foreign investors to leverage Uganda’s generous incentive package, which includes access to free land in industrial parks.

This initiative aims to spur import substitution, boost exports, and ensure that Uganda maintains its position as the leading investment destination in East Africa, as reaffirmed by the Annual Investment Awards in Abu Dhabi in 2023.

Robert Mukiza, Director of UIA, addressed the press on Thursday 28th March, 2024, outlining the key objectives of the campaign.

“UIA will collaborate with various government agencies, including the Uganda Revenue Authority, the State House Investors Protection Unit, the Uganda Registration Services Bureau, NWSC, UMEME, and others, to streamline services for investors. Any obstacles, delays, or bureaucratic hurdles encountered by investors will be promptly addressed,” Mukiza stated.

He further elaborated on the proactive measures UIA is implementing to ensure investor satisfaction, including spot visits to industrial parks to assess challenges firsthand and the establishment of a dedicated 24-hour hotline for investor inquiries and complaints.

“For indigenous Ugandans and potential investors, it’s essential to note that the government has allocated 81 square miles of land across gazetted industrial parks nationwide. All land within these parks is available free of charge,” Mukiza emphasised.

However, Mukiza clarified that while Ugandans will access free land, certain conditions must be met by beneficiaries.

These include commencing development within 18 months of allocation, completing construction of factory or office buildings within two years, roofing structures within three years, and installing machinery within four years.

“Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in the withdrawal of allocated land, as stipulated in public notices,” Mukiza warned.

He reiterated that the provision of free land in industrial parks aligns with a directive issued by President Yoweri Museveni in 2016. Mukiza urged the public to report any instances of fraud or corruption related to the sale of land to investors to prevent sabotage of the government’s industrialisation agenda.

“All UIA services are offered free of charge and can be accessed by Ugandans through the One Stop Centres,” Mukiza concluded, underscoring the accessibility and support available to investors seeking to contribute to Uganda’s economic development.
