UGANDA, Namutumba | Real Muloodi News | Residents of Bugobi Sub-county and Bugobi Town Council in Namutumba District are witnessing significant development as construction work on the Bugobi-Nakazinga Road has commenced.

The approximately seven-kilometre road has faced neglect for decades, leaving the community jubilant about the ongoing works that aim to address longstanding infrastructure challenges.

The project, estimated to cost USh461 million, is being executed by M/S Mawani International Ltd, under the supervision of the Ministry of Works and Transport.

The contract manager, Mr Moses Mugoya, highlighted the road’s prolonged deterioration, attributing the delayed intervention to budget constraints faced by the district.

He expressed optimism about the positive impact of the project on the local community.

Namutumba District Assistant Engineer, Mr. Nicodemus Nkobe, emphasised the importance of adhering to the project specifications outlined in the bidding document.

Given the significant investment of USh461 million, strict oversight is in place to ensure quality work and compliance with construction standards.

Nkobe also urged road users, particularly boda boda riders, to exercise caution during the construction period.

Bugobi Town Council Chairperson, Mr. Sam Katoke, expressed delight over the initiation of works on a road that has been impassable for over 40 years.

He anticipates positive outcomes for businesses, anticipating increased economic activity and improved transportation of goods and raw materials.

Namutumba LC5 Chairperson, Mr. David Mukisa, highlighted the broader challenge of inadequate funds affecting the overall road infrastructure in the district.

Despite the significant allocation for the Bugobi-Nakazinga Road, the district’s annual budget for road maintenance is limited to Shs382 million.

Namutumba Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Mr. Emmanuel Ofwono, underscored the importance of adhering to the agreed-upon timeframe for the roadworks, estimating a six-month duration for completion.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr Thomas Matende, issued a stern warning, asserting that substandard work would lead to the contractor’s arrest and contract cancellation.

Namutumba District Woman Member of Parliament, Ms. Mariam Naigaga, emphasised collaboration between the contractor and local leaders. She also cautioned against vandalism of road materials by the community.

Mr. Paul Akamba, representing Busiki Constituency, urged the contractor to incorporate proper drainage systems to mitigate damage during the rainy seasons.

Local leaders and residents are optimistic about the road’s completion, anticipating increased economic activities, enhanced accessibility, and improved local revenue generation.

It is seen as a transformative initiative that has the potential to stimulate growth and development in the Bugobi-Nakazinga region.
