UGANDA, Entebbe Real Muloodi NewsA fire incident at St Theresa Kisubi Girls’ Primary School has resulted in significant property damage.

The fire, attributed to a lightning strike, engulfed one of the dormitories during a heavy downpour while the Primary four pupils were in class.

The headmistress of St Theresa Kisubi Girls’ Primary School, Sr Maria Josephine Namubiru, reported that the fire ignited within the dormitory.

Prompt response by school staff, and labourers, and the use of fire extinguishers, sand, and water helped contain the fire. The local police were called in to assist, although they arrived after the fire had been mostly extinguished.

Sr Josephine expressed relief that all students were safe and unharmed since they were in class during the fire. However, the dormitory suffered extensive property damage.

Counsellors have been made available to the affected students to provide emotional support during this challenging time.

According to the Katabi Town Council LC3 chairperson, Mr Ronald Kalema, despite having a lightning conductor in the dormitory, the strength of the thunder and lightning overwhelmed the system.

He commended the police for their swift response in managing the situation and preventing the fire from spreading to other buildings.

The Entebbe Main Police Station has initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. The incident occurred at 8 a.m., and while it resulted in substantial property damage, no casualties or injuries were reported.
