Masaka RCC Expresses Displeasure over Absenteeism of Parish Chiefs at PDM Launch

UGANDA, Masaka | Real Muloodi News | The Masaka Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Hudu Hussein, voiced his disappointment on Tuesday, 13th June 2023 regarding the absence of parish chiefs at the launch of the Parish Development Model (PDM).

Speaking at the event held at Masaka Liberation Square, where USh802,064,725 was disbursed through revolving funds, Hudu criticised the lack of attendance by parish chiefs, emphasising that he did not come for a leisurely visit but to address those who neglect their responsibilities.

“If we are launching PDM which is being monitored by the parish chiefs and you are not here, are you sober honestly? I will not allow this for the little time I will be in Masaka,” Mr Hudu said.

Expressing his concern, Hudu stressed that while the government has taken steps to alleviate poverty among the people, poor monitoring of projects by civil servants often leads to blame being placed on the government for people’s continued poverty.

He emphasised the crucial role of parish chiefs in monitoring the PDM and highlighted the need for their active involvement.

Hudu made it clear that he would not tolerate such absenteeism as it undermines the progress and effectiveness of development initiatives.

Hudu’s statements were supported by the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, who served as the chief guest at the PDM launch.

Minister Ssempijja expressed concern that some individuals prioritise personal gain over serving the people after securing employment.

He questioned why parish chiefs, who receive financial support for accommodation, fail to attend significant events that are essential for the communities they serve.

Shilla Akello, the PDM focal person in Masaka, revealed that 440 individuals from 25 parishes in Masaka City have benefited from the program.

She urged the beneficiaries to use the funds for their intended purpose, emphasising the importance of responsible utilisation to maximise the positive impact on local communities.

By emphasising the need for civil servants to fulfil their duties diligently, the RCC aims to improve the effectiveness of poverty eradication efforts.
