UGANDA, Nakasongola Real Muloodi News | The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) has been given 1,140 acres for industrial parks development in Central Uganda. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), through its business arm National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), has offered Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) one square mile (640 acres) for the establishment of Tarehe Sita Industrial Park in Kakooge, Nakasongola Districts.

The land is on the Kampala-Gulu-Juba international highway.

Speaking during a land tour, the deputy chief executive of NEC, Maj Gen Michael Oula, said they want the industrial park up and running as soon as possible. Maj Gen Michael further revealed that an Egyptian investor has already expressed an interest in setting up an ICT industry in the park.

In the same spirit, Butambala District is offering 500 acres of land to UIA in Gombe. According to the Member of Parliament for Butambala, and the Shadow Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Muwanga-Kivumbi, the park will serve the Greater Mpigi Districts of Gomba and Butambala.

Hon. Muwanga-Kivumbi said Mpigi is an agricultural powerhouse producing essential products such as coffee, milk, hides and skins for export. He added that the industrial park would enable the locals to add value to the products.

Morrison Rwakakamba, the Chair of the UIA Board, said with Uganda enjoying security, peace and stability, this is the time to laser-focus on economic activity for wealth creation through industrialisation.

UIA Director General Robert Mukiza said they would conduct feasibility studies to ensure that the industrial parks fit with the economies of their locations.

Mukiza says the people should prepare to snap up opportunities in the industrial parks. They should not only embrace the parks but get involved through production and upskilling.

The donated land in the two districts of Nakasongola and Butambala Districts brings the total land acreage to 5,790 offered by local governments for industrial parks development. The Central Region offered 1,140 acres, the Western Region offered 1,270 acres, and the Northern Region offered 3,380 acres. Mobilisation for the same activities will soon start in the Eastern Region.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni directed UIA, the chief investment promotion agency, to establish 25 industrial parks throughout Uganda in the next five years.

According to Evelyn Anite, the Investment Minister, the UIA will ensure the installation of critical infrastructure like access roads, industrial power and water, ICT systems, drainage systems, waste management systems, etc. Minister Anite encouraged both domestic and foreign investors to invest in the regional industrial parks.

Acting on a Cabinet position, UIA and NEC agreed that the UPDF Engineering Brigade would construct industrial parks, reducing the construction cost by about 70 per cent, ensuring value for money, quality, and timely completion of the parks.
