URA Celebrates Uganda Baati for Tax Compliance and Partnership in Combating Counterfeits

UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) celebrates Uganda Baati for its remarkable tax compliance record and its collaboration in efforts to combat counterfeiting.

At the close of February, in a recent meeting between URA Customs Commissioner, Abel Kagumire, and the team from Uganda Baati, led by Business Head George Arodi, the URA commended Uganda Baati for its consistent adherence to tax regulations and its unwavering commitment to integrity.

Kagumire praised Uganda Baati for its steadfast compliance with tax regulations and extended congratulations to the company as it approaches its 60th anniversary.

“We congratulate you as pioneers of the steel sector for the role you have played and continue to play in the economy, and for maintaining excellence and quality in the building solutions industry,” he stated.

George Arodi, Business Head of Uganda Baati, also acknowledged URA’s efforts in streamlining import and export clearance processes, particularly in the manufacturing sector.

“Uganda Baati is part of the Authorized Economic Operator program, and we have seen seamless execution with cross-border trade, fostering a culture of compliance within our team,” Arodi remarked.

In addition to tax compliance, the Customs Commissioner urged Uganda Baati to consider partnering with URA to enhance skills development among its team members.

“We want our field teams to have practical industry knowledge. We hope to benchmark or partner with Uganda Baati to embed this knowledge into our staff. Practical understanding of the manufacturing industry can guide policy formulations and ease their duties too,” Kagumire emphasized.

The discussion also touched upon the importance of enacting stringent policies to combat counterfeiting and the circulation of substandard goods in the market.

Uganda Baati and the URA team both underscored the detrimental impact of counterfeit products on the market, leading to significant losses for compliant market players.

“The infiltration of these goods into the market devalues quality products, creating substantial loss margins for compliant market players,” expressed George Arodi, Uganda Baati’s Business Head.

Assuring proactive measures, the Customs Commissioner reiterated, “We are actively enforcing customs regulations and conducting inspections at ports of entry to prevent the entry of substandard and fake goods into the country. Rest assured, we are taking robust action to eradicate this vice.”

Kagumire expressed appreciation for the meaningful engagement with Uganda Baati and called upon other sector players to emulate the company’s commitment to compliance and integrity.
