UGANDA, Wakiso | Real Muloodi News | A tragic incident unfolded in Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District, as a pastor was stabbed to death during a land dispute.

Pastor Julius Omara Nyerere, who served at the Pure Heart Miracle Centre International Church, was fatally attacked by a woman named Bushirah Nekesa.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 pm on Thursday 1st June 2023 when Nekesa engaged in a confrontation with Omara over iron sheets that were blocking the path leading to his home.

Despite efforts to save the pastor’s life, doctors at Peoples Medical Centre in Gayaza confirmed that he had already passed away.

Omara had been a resident of Kyankima Village in Kasangati for over six years, while Nekesa, who is married to Fred Kakooza, a boda rider, had only been living in the area for five months.

Before the fatal incident, Nekesa had raised complaints about the loud noise coming from the church, and the issue was resolved at Kasangati Police Station. The pastor was cautioned to turn off the microphone by 10:00 pm.

On Thursday, Nekesa visited the office of the LC1 (Local Council 1) and accused Pastor Omara of encroaching on her land by extending his church a few feet onto it.

The matter was brought to the attention of the LC1 chairperson, Edward Muyanga, who organised a meeting on Sunday for both parties to present their land documents and determine the boundaries. However, before a resolution could be reached, tragedy struck.

“We reached the land in dispute and resolved it by having a meeting on Sunday. Each of them was supposed to come along with land documents then we take clear measurements, that could give us final discussion,” Muyanga said.

Residents reported witnessing Nekesa stab Pastor Omara, who eventually succumbed to his injuries. Nekesa promptly fled the scene but later turned herself in to the police in Kasangati, resulting in her arrest.

Muyanga received a distress call about the incident and rushed to the scene, only to discover that Nekesa had already been taken into custody.

Prossy Mirembe, the widow of Pastor Omara, recounted how she encountered Nekesa fighting with her husband upon returning from work.

Although they managed to separate the two, the pastor was losing a significant amount of blood. Unfortunately, the medical team’s efforts to save his life were in vain.

According to the Assistant pastor, Peter Opedum, the body has been transferred to the mortuary, and funeral arrangements are currently underway. Pastor Omara will be laid to rest in Nagongera, Tororo District.

The authorities are continuing their investigation into the tragic incident.
