UGANDA, Kampala | Real Muloodi News | Renowned businessman and real estate mogul Godfrey Kirumira has recently made headlines for revealing that he has given Ugandan singer Rema Namakula a decade to pursue her music career before focusing on her relationship with Dr. Hamza Sebunya.

Kirumira has played a pivotal role in the couple’s love story, serving as the chairman of their introduction ceremony (Kwanjula) in 2019, and reportedly investing millions of shillings in the colorful event held in Nabbingo along Masaka road.

However, during the Kwanjula, Kirumira, who is Dr. Sebunya’s uncle and guardian, issued Rema with an ultimatum to quit her active music career within five years. This announcement sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some questioning why Kirumira had a say in Rema’s career choice.

Nonetheless, in 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic struck Uganda and the music industry, sending the country into lockdowns and causing significant financial losses. As a result, Kirumira decided to call off the five-year ultimatum and extend it to ten years, reasoning that Rema needed time to compensate for the losses incurred during the pandemic.

According to Kirumira, once the ten-year period elapses, Rema will retire from music and focus on building her relationship with Dr. Sebunya. Kirumira further hinted that the couple is planning a public wedding, stating that no expense would be spared to make the ceremony memorable.

Kirumira also commended Rema and Dr. Sebunya for taking good care of each other, while hinting that Rema might be pregnant.

The couple welcomed their first child, Aaliyah, in November 2021. Rema also has a daughter, Aamaal Musuuza, from her previous relationship with fellow musician Eddy Kenzo. According to Rema, Dr. Sebunya treats Aamaal as his own daughter, despite not being his biological daughter.

While some people are questioning Kirumira’s authority to dictate Rema’s career choices, his influence on the couple’s relationship cannot be ignored. As Dr. Sebunya’s uncle and guardian, Kirumira plays a significant role in the couple’s decision-making, particularly regarding their future plans.

However, it is worth noting that Rema is a talented and accomplished musician in her own right, with a large following in Uganda and East Africa. She has released several hit songs, including “Tikula” and “Gutujja” featuring B2C. Her music career has also seen her perform in several international shows, cementing her status as one of Uganda’s most celebrated female artists.

Rema has yet to make a public statement whether she will indeed retire from music after the ten-year period, as Kirumira suggested.
