UGANDA, Masaka | Real Muloodi News | Three security guards have been arrested by the police in Greater Masaka on suspicion of involvement in the theft of construction materials from a company contracted for road construction in Masaka City.

The arrest came after engineers from China Railway No.3 Engineering Group reported the theft of 700 bags of cement and iron bars from one of their stores on Elgin Street in Masaka City.

The suspects are employed by K Lion Security Company Ltd.

As part of their investigation, the police have recovered 258 bags of cement, but efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining stolen items.

A temporary structure in Samaliya-Kako Village in Nyendo-Mukungwe Municipality yielded some of the construction materials during the operation.

The recovered construction materials are currently being held at Masaka Central Police Station, and the suspects will be brought before the court on Monday 31st July 2023 to face charges related to the theft.

David Kangume, a liaison officer for China Railway No. 3 Engineering Group, expressed disappointment with the security guards for failing to fulfil their duties and instead engaging in theft.

He stated that the theft of their site materials was orchestrated by their security team, and the discovery of the missing materials was a result of the company’s efforts, as the guards were uncooperative in providing information.

The police continue their efforts to recover the remaining stolen road construction materials and to identify any other individuals involved in the theft.
